June 07, 2012

Left Sidney, Nebraska this morning heading to Chimney Rock in western part of state close too the Wyoming border. Chimney Rock is on the old Oregon Trail that the pioneers took west. Alot of history about this area. Next stopped by Scottsbluff which is still part of Oregon Trail. Drove from there to Fort Laramie and did a walking tour of the fort. Alot of the old fort buildings are still standing and in very good shape to be 160 years old. Fort Laramie is where the fur trappers stopped off on their way to the Rocky Mountains & where some Indian treaties were signed. Very interesting part of history. Left Fort Laramie heading to Casper, Wyoming and ran into dark clouds, tuned radio to the weather station. A Tornado was heading in our direction. I mashed the gas pedal down on the ford crown victoria, we just barely got north of it before it came thru. I could see a low hanging cloud in the distance south of us. Radio said later it had touched down and done some damage. Anyway we got to Casper OK. Steve

  1. Hey Carole and Steve,
I am enjoying catching up on the "sequel" to the Walker Westward expansion tour. The pictures are very pretty, and I know you are enjoying the history of the area. I am very thankful that you were able to miss the tornado, though, and I hope you don't experience any more turbulent weather on your "westward expansion."

I was asked at church last night if I had heard from you, and I was very embarrassed that I had not checked in on you. I have typed probably three responses, and then I figured that I had to join the site again (the membership to the old blog didn't hold for this one). I hope when I hit the post button this time, my post doesn't disappear into cyberspace. Sometimes I feel like Lily Tomlin has reincarnated into my body (one ringy dingy two ringy dingy lol).

Please have wonderful fun, and drink in all the lovely scenery and history, and please stay safe. We are missing you very much in H-town and look forward to seeing your smiling faces when you have finished your vacation. In the meantime, just enjoy.

I know things will liven up when the kids and Maury get there - that is if a tornado isn't excitement enough...

Love ya'll and keep on posting and putting up the pictures as we are enjoying them very much!

  2. Sounds like you had some excitement with the tornado and all...glad you are okay. I'm counting down the days and wish I was there to experience all the highs and lows of the road trip. :) Love you both ~ See you soon!

  3. Also, turn on your phone every once in a while. I've been trying to call you guys for two days now. If you can manage to blog, surely you can figure out how to turn on your cell phone! LOL (that means "laughing out loud" in case you aren't up on your computer lingo).
